Periodically, AVA offers studio art classes in conjunction with University of Tennessee Chattanooga and
Chattanooga State Technical Community College. Past courses include Studio Drawing, Mold-Making
and Casting, and Intaglio Printing. Below is a listing of various studio classes offered in the area.
New Studio Classes at Townsend Atelier
A variety of new studio classes are being held at Townsend Atelier.
All classes meet at Townsend Atelier, 201 West Main Street. For more

- Acrylic Painting & Mixed Media

- How to Draw: Fearless Drawing instructor Rebecca Gates
Wed., July 27 & Aug. 1, 6-8 pm
Whatever
your current level of mastery or what intention you have this class
offers the opportunity to learn to see form to get accurate shape to
work the magic of creating the illusion of 3-dimension on paper.
Working from a still life made of everyday things and drapery students
will learn how to use charcoal. After this you will boldly make art
with confidence. Pre-registration required.
- Open Life Drawing Studio
Every Thursday, 6-8 pm
Open
studios are non-instructed sessions with live models. A
combination of short and long poses will be done. Participants may
work at their own pace and with whatever medium they wish to work
with. Drop in any session for $15 ($10 with student ID) or
receive a discounted rate by pre-registering below for a package
of four sessions for $40.
Open House and Painting Demonstration by Mia Bergeron

Come
and join us! A chance for everyone to visit Townsend Atelier enjoy
some food and drink and watch the artist do a live painting
demonstration from a model. Mia will be demonstrating all of the
techniques to be taught during the workshop. Those who are registered
for the workshop are encouraged to attend but participating in the
workshop is certainly not required to attend this fun informative and
lively demo. Make an evening of it and visit other studios and galleries
alogn Mitchell and Main for the monthly Southside Stroll! Open the

Shuptrine's Gold Leaf Designs
Drop
in any Thursday night for an informal sketch workshop. Subjects will
be figurative and still life. Bring your supplies and choose your own
medium. Charge is $15 per session. Call to reserve an easel if needed

Music City Paint-Out
September 14-16, 9 am - 4 pm
Join
us in downtown Nashville to capture the vitality of this energetic city
and its people. Internationally known artist Gayle Levée leads this
plein air workshop for artists familiar with working outdoors, using
plein air equipment, who are ready to boost thier work to the next
level of excellence while having fun in doing it. Format: Morning demo
and afternoon painting with indivualized instruction. Last day review:
2:30 on September 16. Please bring all of your paintings to the review.
Class limit: 15 Workshop Fee: $400, with a non refundable deposit of
$175.

PAST STUDIO COURSES OFFERED
Zen and the Art of the Repetitive: Mold Making & Casting Techniques @ CSTCC
This two-day course will walk students through a variety of mold-making and casting techniques using silicone and urethane materials. Through lecture and demonstrations, students will be instructed how to make a one piece and a two piece re-usable mold, how to make castings, and how to create a variety of post-finishes. Lunch provided. $175 AVA Members / $225 non-members
Life Drawing @ UTC
AVA, in cooperation with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, present a life drawing class for intermediate and advance students. Working from live models, students will study anatomy and the expressive forms of the human body. $95 AVA Members / $135 Nonmembers
Intaglio Printmaking @ UTC (5 weeks / 10
hours)
Instructor: Juanita Tumelaire
AVA, in cooperation with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga,
presents a 5-week intaglio printmaking class for beginning and
intermediate students. This class is designed to teach participants how
to apply traditional etching techniques to create a sequence of related
prints. These could take the form of book pages or comprise a portfolio.
Students will receive a materials list, and a fee payable to the
instructor will cover etching plates and proofing paper.
