Located in Raleigh, North Carolina, Lump combines the rigor and
professionalism of a commercial gallery with the experimental attitude
of an alternative space. Dedicated to the promotion of emerging,
mid-career and under-recognized artists, Lump is committed to the
exhibition of challenging and thought-provoking contemporary art that
falls outside the confines of the commodity-driven art market and
conducts itself without commercial compromise. Team Lump, an
ever-evolving collective of artists, works organically to adapt to each
new exhibition space, combining paintings, drawings, sculpture, wall
drawings, and video to create installations laden with biting
commentary.

The two-month show will feature original art by street artist, Sour
One, painted directly onto the walls and surfaces at the gallery.
Additional works on canvas, board, signs and other found materials and
objects will also be a part of the site-specific installation which

Opening reception is Friday, August 6 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Both artists
will be present. Clay artist, Sandra Blain, will exhibit her hand-built
forms impressed with organic and inorganic materials. These impressions
create highly textured surfaces that serve as metaphors for landscape
elements. Holden McCurry hand builds functional and symbolic clay
sculptures influenced by organic and architectural forms. Using custom
tinted glazes, Mr. McCurry achieves rich color and textural surfaces in
his work.

Downtown Chattanooga Gallery Hop 2010
AVA
has announced the fifth annual Downtown Chattanooga Gallery Hop will
occur Saturday, September 11 from 2 to 9 p.m. On the heels of being
named one of the top 25 arts destinations in the country by American Style
for the second year in a row, this event will give residents and
visitors of Chattanooga a chance to see for themselves the amazing
artwork created by local artists.
Mary
Britten Lynch’s work has been exhibited locally, nationally and
internationally, and is featured in 14 magazines and 11 books. The
title of the show, Etcetera, is inspired by the greatly varying range
of works which has become a part of the mystique of Mary’s career. One
work, “Sentinel”, a response to Ground Zero and in keeping with the
timing of the show, traveled the U.S. with the American Watercolor
Society exhibition, which opened in NYC in 2007.

Metal Art as Oral Tradition...the Story as Jewel

will teach a workshop that explores design and the concept of art as
oral tradition using traditional metal techniques and surface
embellishment to fabricate small wearable sculpture.

Weekly Open Figure Drawing Session

The Rivoli Art Mill | 2301 East 28th Street
Join the artists at the Rivoli Art Mill on Sunday afternoons for an
open, non-instructional Figure Drawing Session. A live model will be
posing in fifteen 1-minute gestures, three 5-minute sketches and one
15-minute pose. Three 30-minute poses will follow with breaks in
between for the model. Cost: $10 per person. Please provide your own
materials and easel. The space can hold 10-12 people comfortably.

art is coming to the Northshore! You’ve seen public art downtown.
You’ve seen public art in Renaissance and Coolidge Parks. You may even
have seen public art in other Chattanooga neighborhoods. Now, public
art is coming to our neighborhood and you have the opportunity to help
with this important community project. To find out more, the Northshore
Community Public Art Committee and City Councilwoman Sally Robinson
would like for the community to come out to the Chattanooga Theatre
Centre on August 31 at 6pm. Come find out about the project and share
some snacks and drinks with us. There will be a short presentation
about the plans for public sculpture on Frazier Avenue. For more

finalists will be named in each category and the 2010 YP Award winners
will be announced the evening of the YP Awards. The YP Awards are
hosted by the Young Professionals Association of Chattanooga (YPAC) and
will take place October 9, 2010 at Warehouse Row. YPAC is accepting
nominations for the following categories: Young Professional of the
Year, YP‐Friendly Business of the Year, YP Artist of the Year, YP Entrepreneur of the Year, and the YP Community Service Award.
