The Media Lab
The Association for Visual Arts announces
the closing of the Media Lab.
The Association for Visual Arts (AVA) will close its media lab at the end of the fiscal year. The final day the media lab will be open to its members and to the general public will be Saturday, June 29, 2013. The closing coincides with the planned resignation of the current Media Lab Manager, Lauren Necko, who is moving out of state at the same time.
AVA will continue to offer classes on topics related to the applied arts and digital media. The Photo Studio, a clean room that can be rented by the Chattanooga community, remains open to AVA Members and the public.
“The Media Lab filled a need in the community when it first opened in 2008. Since then, however, the availability of computers and design software has grown exponentially and the need no longer exists at the level it used to. It’s similar to the video rental companies that are closing due to a shift in how people access movies” said Anne Willson, AVA’s Executive Director. Willson noted that Chattanooga Public Library is converting the 4th floor of the downtown branch into a media lab and is offering a strong array of high quality media tools to the general public.
