This open course will run down basic video editing skills and elements of documentary storytelling. It's especially geared for individuals to develop full-production capabilities from scratch and for members of media/communications teams to easily create consistent, quality video content for their organizations. Instruction software is Final Cut Pro.

- Pre-Post-Production: Visualization, shot composition & continuity

- Selecting best footage for editing

- Easy fixes for light & color consistency

- Narrative flow, transitions, knowing when to cut

- Titling

- Bridging shots & montages

- Cross-cutting

- Multi-purposing for export: Full versions, special features, trailers & social media bites

Please bring a cell phone or other hand-held recorders you have or expect to be using in your work.

Local documentarian Robert Ashton Winslow will be leading the workshop in partnership with AVA. Editing examples used in the course will be drawn from his Southern Dialogues documentary webseries.
